Bring a movie to the Kiggins thru TUGG INC

October 19, 2015 by Richard Beer

Ever come across a cool documentary or indie film that you really want to see, but it isn’t playing nearby? Well, the web-platform distributor TUGG Inc. has the solution for you!
Here’s how it works. Visit TUGG’s website and browse the hundreds of awesome documentaries, classic films, independents and concert films in their library. Once you find a title you like, contact TUGG with your proposed date. TUGG will contact us to see if your film will fit into our schedule (you can also email us through our website to check a date first, saving a bit of time). We then set the date and terms with TUGG and then we all start promoting.
TUGG screenings work like a Kickstarter campaign. For the screening to happen, a certain quota of tickets must be sold. If the quota isn’t met, the screening doesn’t happen and folks credit cards are not charged. If it makes the minimum, the screening will take place, the Kiggins is happy and you get 5% of the revenue for all your work!
Some of the successful screenings that have taken place at the Kiggins include BLACK BEAUTY BREED, BEING GINGER, THE KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM, OJ: THE MUSICAL, WHY WE RIDE and in the past few week’s UNBRANDED and PAPER TIGERS.
So check out TUGG now!

TUGG screening “UNBRANDED” has met it’s quota and these horses are going strong!

September 10, 2015 by Richard Beer

We are pleased to announce that our TUGG screening of the acclaimed documentary UNBRANDED met it’s quota (in less than 3 days!) and will take place on October 6th at 7:30pm.
UNBRANDED is the tale of four young Cowboys who hatch an outrageous plot to adopt, train, and ride a string of wild mustangs 3,000 miles from Mexico to Canada through the wildest terrain of the American West. The trip became an epic journey of self-discovery, tested friendships, and iconic landscapes that included runaway horses, a sassy donkey, perilous mountain passes, rodeos, sickness, injury, and death.
The Audience Award winner at Telluride Mountainfilm and Hot Docs Film Festival, UNBRANDED is a soaring tale of danger and resilience, an emotionally charged odyssey that shines a bright light on the complex plight of our country’s wild horses.
It’s not too late to be a part of this event! You can get your tickets now (with no service charge) by visiting the Event Page. If it doesn’t sell out, tickets will be available at the door.

TWINSTERS has finally arrived!

August 14, 2015 by Richard Beer

We are so pleased to finally open the critically acclaimed (100% on Rotten Tomatoes!) documentary TWINSTERS tonight at the Kiggins!

Twinsters
Here’s the scoop: In February 2013, Anaïs Bordier, a French fashion student living in London, stumbled upon a YouTube video featuring Samantha Futerman, an actress in Los Angeles (she was in Memoirs of a Geisha and 21 & Over), and was struck by their uncanny resemblance. After discovering they were born on the same day in Busan, Korea and both put up for adoption, Anaïs reached out to Samantha via Facebook. In Twinsters, we follow Samantha and Anaïs’ journey into sisterhood, witnessing everything from their first meeting, to their first trip back to Korea where their separation took place.
Twinsters explores the meaning of family and connection through a story that would have been impossible just 10 years ago without the creation of YouTube and Facebook.
So see, all that time everyone spends on social media platforms CAN have a positive outcome!
I probably see close to a hundred documentaries each year (I don’t sleep much), and I can honestly say, Twinsters is my favorite of 2015. It is charming, extremely funny, and wonderfully directed and edited (it won a special award for editing at the esteemed SXSW film festival this year as well as Best Documentary Feature at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival). The incorporation of on-screen texts and Facetime and other technologies is wonderful.
So, I hope you will join us this week. You won’t be sorry.

Grease IS the word for Cruisin’ The Gut!

July 18, 2015 by Richard Beer

Every year when Cruisin’ the Gut rolls around (it will literally be rolling past our door tomorrow) we like to celebrate by bringing in a repertory film that ties in to classic car culture, and this year’s selection is the 1978 film GREASE.
Set in the late 1950s this musical (showing in a special “sing-a-long version” stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, but for some, the star of the film is the “Auto-matic, System-matic, and Hydro-matic” 1948 Ford De Luxe (that oddly can fly at the end of the movie).

Sing-a-long Grease
GREASE THE SING-A-LONG will show on Friday at 6pm, Saturday at Saturday at 6:45pm & 9:15pm, and Sunday at 2pm & 6:45pm. Poodle skirts and leather jackets encouraged!
