Join us on Sunday, April 8th for a very special afternoon honoring the legendary Kiggins’ icon  “Popcorn Betty” in celebration of her 90th Birthday with a special screening of one of her favorite films THE SOUND OF MUSIC!
Doors open at 12:30pm for the meet and greet with Ms. Howard and the film will start at 2pm.
Bettyann “Popcorn Betty” Howard was an important fixture at the Kiggins for 31 years from 1965 until it’s closure in 1996. Generations of people who came to the Kiggins during her reign love regaling us with stories of  how Ms. Howard ran the theater with an iron fist.
After the screening, local author Julia Hirsch will be on hand signing copies of her book “Sound of Music: The Making of America’s Favorite Movie”.
When “The Sound of Music” was released in 1965 it took the world by storm, earning five Oscars (including Best Picture), and went on to command the number-one spot at the box office for five years running. For millions of people, the film is that rare combination of a powerful and moving story, first-rate music, and breathtaking scenery. The Sound of Music: The Making of America’s Favorite Movie is a tribute to this beloved movie musical and a fascinating, behind-the-scene account of the creation of a Hollywood classic.
