THE TUNNEL

In mountainous Norway there are over 1100 road tunnels, three of which are the world’s longest including the Lærdal tunnel which is over 15 miles long. Most do not have have emergency exits or safe rooms.

Since 2011 there have been eight big tunnel fires, and only by heroic acts and pure luck have there been no casualties.

Based on these real-life cases, in the fictional THE TUNNEL a petrol tank truck crashes in a tunnel in the ice-cold Norwegian mountains, trapping families and tourists on their way home for the Christmas holiday. Outside a blizzard is raging and the first responders struggle to get to the scene of the accident from either side. The wrecked tanker soon catches fire and the blocked tunnel is filled with deadly smoke.

Directed by Pål Øie THE TUNNEL is a pulse-pounding disaster film that also has a huge heart.
